AltLinc ventured to the Zing comedy night to check out some free comedy.

The evening begain at 8.30 with lively material from Ed Carfrae, a Lincoln man who had been running the show for the last two weeks. Ed acted as the MC while the other comedians arrived. He was able to keep the crowd warmed up and laughing with his mix of story based comedy and witty banter with the entire audience. His comedy stemmed from thinking on his feet, which made him feel more genuine as over the course of the night it felt like he got to know you as he poked fun at everyone in the audience.

Ed was followed by the smooth works of Adi Knight.  Adi seemed a little calmer than Ed, which made his story based comedy flow well throughout his performance.  His relaxed style contrasted the more jumpy and sporadic comedy of Ed, although it did not detract from the act.

The night was still young as the third performer of the evening came on stage. Alexander Noble was another calm comedian but did seem a little nervous at first.   The laughs kept coming from the crowd though as his story based comedy felt like a natural follow on from the work of Adi.

At the point of the interval it felt like the evening was going well.  A free comedy gig which was much warmer and friendlier than a big show as the comedians actually felt like they were getting to know you, and the Zing Cafe Bar was selling cheap drinks to go with it.

The next comedian to perform was the first of the night to use a one liner style, something I’m particularly fond of.  Chris Ashton was a fast and quick comic who used one liner jokes through his performance and did not resort to story based comedy.

The comedian to follow was Ian Miller who bought a nice geeky element to the night with his use of props, specifically his Superman posters.  I won’t say what the jokes were but if you’re a comic fan you’d probably appreciate them.

Overall the evening was a delight to visit and worthy of a higher attendance than we saw.  If you’re free Monday nights then head on down.

Check back next Monday for next week’s review.
