Once again AltLinc ventured to the Zing comedy night, as they so frequently do on Mondays.
Over the past few weeks Zing comedy club has been drawing bigger and bigger audiences through its doors, (something we hope we’ve had a hand in) and this week was no exception. Not a seat in the room was empty as MC for the night Al Cowe took to the stage.
Al Cowe engaged with the audience immediately and his confidence overwhelmed the stage. His jokes took a while to warm up and some of them fell short but by the end of his first stint his improvisation had connected him to the crowd.

Our first comic of the evening was David Jesudason. His opening joke drew a comparison between himself and Mowgli from The Jungle Book. He lost his flow a few times and was clock watching throughout his set. While he engaged with the audience it all felt like a routine he had done 100 times before.
Can someone DM me McIntyre’s mobile number?

Worth a shot eyyy David?!?

After a brief ten minute break we had our second comedian for the night, Jim Baye. He improvised his first joke, something which is tricky but well worth it if pulled off, as the audience are immediately engaged and Jim certainly pulled it off. His jokes went from impersonations to incontinence and religion. His look was ‘unusual,’ a flat cap was worn throughout and he came across as very confident, some might have said overly.

As I sipped on my £2 wine the third comic came to the stage. Matt Kenson made an impression on the crowd quickly, shame it wasn’t a good one. His first suggestion of a joke regarding Schumacher and a slippery slope roused little but pity laughs from the audience. He aimed to incorporate music into the set by singing, badly. His whole performance was harrowing and repetitive and by the time he left the stage the audience had long since been ready for a new comic.

Russ had the awful job of appearing on stage next and he didn’t make the night any better. He was overbearing and his set relied solely on him being black and the supposed benefits that has on his downstairs department. He came across as though he was preaching for most of his set and his closing joke fell to pieces when he proclaimed he could no longer continue as he’d seen an attractive girl in the audience.

Next came Sophie Johnson, the only female of the night. She spoke about Christmas, family and told the crowd about her ‘nephants’ her word for both nephews and nieces. (Spread the word guys.) She was a very friendly comedian who didn’t have to use shock tactics to get a reaction from the audience, she was very well received and I would go to watch her again.

Just the type of joke we like… plain & simple.. no offence necessary…

The headline act of tonight was the hilarious Steve-N-Allen and after what had preceded him, I think we were all grateful of his amazing comic talent. He spoke to us all in his ‘radio voice’ which was truly amazing and had the crowd swooning and laughing from the off. He was engaging, friendly and easy to watch. He ended his set by divulging to the audience his desire to get #amazeboobs trending on Twitter. AltLinc were so engaged and in love with this performance we want to try and help him out, so come on you lovely people, #amazeboobs with what you think it amazing!
